Camp was, once again, a huge success. We had no problems and no urgent care trips, which is always one of our goals. I got an hour of sleep on Friday night, which was an improvement over the total all-nighter of 2010. I think we sent the girls home exhausted, with memories and experiences that they will hold onto for a long time.
We always get questions as to how former campers can become counselors (because they see that the counselors have the most fun of anybody at camp, probably). The easiest answer is: stay connected with your branch. Branch coordinators are the first people we go to when we need more counselors for camp. We like to pick girls who have stayed involved with the people that let them have such an amazing experience.
Next question that's frequently asked: how did we make ice cream. I don't know, since at that point I'm locked up with my computer trying to make a video, but Rosann has provided me with the instructions.
Materials needed (per group): 1 large ziplock bag, ice to fill 1/2 the bag, 1 cup rock salt, 1 swim towel (or other suitable device that will let you not freeze your hands)
Materials (per individual): 1 sandwich size ziplock, 1 tsp. sugar, 1/4 cup Half and Half (or milk or cream), flavoring (optional 1 tsp chocolate or vanilla flavoring)
Mix all the ingredients per individual in the small ziplock bag, and place those two bags in the large ziplock, along with the salt and ice. Wrap the bag in a towel and shake until the ice cream freezes. Rinse off the small ziplock bags, cut off the corner, and enjoy.
Last question: what's with this Facebook page thing? Tech Trek Fresno does have a Facebook group page, which anybody is welcome to join. It's a great way to share pictures, videos, links we find on the internet about math and science, and keep in touch with one another after camp. People have already put up pictures from camp, so if you didn't have a camera (or forgot to take pictures with it) you'll find a ton there. Also, once things have settled down for me in school, I'll make version 2.0 of the video (although I'm probably the only one that noticed the mistakes in 1.0, I'll still fix them and add more footage from Friday). I'll also do my best to put up footage from Friday night's talent show.
